Starting a new blog in this new phase of my life, via TheBlackBeetlProductions (www.theblackbeetleproductions.com) is exciting. I am thrilled to share with you those topics I am most interested in, that I like and that inspire me, that make me happy; topics that take me back to memories of my past as a model, to my present as a mother of two, and businesswoman in the photography and video shooting, and events sector.
I had the privilege of living off of my profession and travelling thanks to it. A thrilling profession, sometimes a bit crazy, sometimes also lonely, sometimes tender, sometimes wild, sometimes very stressing, and sometimes beautiful as only life can be. I love my life, my profession, I love my family, and kind and direct people, those with a clear an honest look.
A wild and thrilling life, as is the city that attracts me the most: New York.
Today I want to share with you my experience, feelings and places that this magic city evokes to me, which, as Frank Sinatra sang [enlace y foto], is the city that never sleeps.
A while ago, a friend of mine, one of those true friends, that even if apart, they are always in your heart… She lives in New York.
She is a producer and fashion photography agent in New York like me, with the difference being that I work in my base in Spain and Italy.
A strong and enterprising woman, used to get to know and to travel to magic and remote places where she carries out her shootings.
Locations that are full of life, colourful or B&W, full of mystery or obviousness, happiness or sadness, full of passion… places that have touched me deeply.
Time changes, and today’s situation is different from that of some years ago.
Not that long ago, though, clients would afford trips to New York, Miami, Bahamas… for their productions. Not anymore.
More and more often shootings are carried out in nearby locations.
Oftentimes, Spanish islands, or cities like Barcelona are a good option, because of our excellent climate and an internationally top-rated and creative ecosystem.
Nowadays cost saving productions are key when it comes to decision making for companies (regardless of the sector – fashion, cosmetics, automotive, etc.) that want to do a shooting.
Imagine what it is to move an entire team of photographers, assistants, make-up artist, stylist, model, producer and the client themselves – that is the minimum necessary to make a shooting if you want a flawless result.
The client will take care of the team expenses from the beginning of the trip to its end, adding each professional’s rate.
That is the reason why clients choose closer locations, to reduce costs, but obviously not reducing the excellence of the final product.
So my New York-based good friend… She IS so lucky! She works in NY and often produces in Europe, however, most of the time she works in the U.S.
Oh, my good friend… Really good friends are always in your heart and in your mind. I was lucky when I met her not long ago and we visited some of the places she would talk about. Magic on earth, cool places, bohemian places, cosmopolitan places, places to live and to dream.
During that wonderful journey together, we visited distant places that only locals know about. Charming places where fun is guaranteed.
I will share with you some of those special places that I was lucky to visit. I avoid touristic and overcrowded places, to find locals’ essence and culture.
For a glamourous dinner, I really liked Cipriani in Dowtown. Celebrities, photographers, models and actors frequent this place. It is curious to see them sitting there and nobody disturbs them to ask for a signature.
Not far, just a 10-minute walk, we find Public Hotel.
I like wandering the streets and discovering new places in this city where energy flows like in no other city.
We had a lovely dinner, chatting, laughing and crying… and at 10 pm we decided to go up to the roof top. OMG!!! What a view!! Beautiful! As a matter of fact, my friend did many shootings for advertising campaigns on this roof top.
If you still do not feel like going home, you should go to the disco in this hotel. You might find people like Bela Hadid, among others.
During my stay, we went to Central Park, which I am totally in love with. We went to two Japanese restaurants in the Upper East Side for lunch: Sushi by Bau and Sushi Gari – both super trendy places, and quite affordable.
We also visited Spring Studio and its beautiful exhibitions.
Another day we went to Soho. OMG OMG! Do I like this area!! You can find any kind of shop, luxury ones, or small and pretty. I wandered its streets discovering so many places!
We had lunch at Delicatessen.
In the afternoon, at 3 pm, we went to Broadway to see The Lion King. Of course they have so many other wonderful shows, such us Pretty Woman, Rocktopia, School of Rock, Harry Potter…
Here you have a list of restaurants I have totally fallen for:
I really like Japanese cuisine, and the Japanese restaurants in New York that I like the most are Ribbon Sushi, Morimoto and Kosaka.
If you prefer food variety, go for The Catch.
The most delicious hamburgers are the ones at Burger Joint. They are just… YUM!
One of my favourite holiday destinations is Greece, especially the Greek islands. I do believe there are still some remote and unexplored places there, and I really enjoy their local cuisine. So if you like Greek food, in NY I recommend Avra. You will love it!
My heart is split between Spain and Italy. I was born and raised in Barcelona, but also spent many years in Italy. Currently I work in both countries producing shootings.
When I travel, I need to find a good Italian restaurant, a REAL Italian restaurant. You know, GENUINE… For me being able to eat a good pasta dish or a good pizza is vital. In NY I highly recommend Peoplino, Dell’anima or Saint Ambroise.
This post comes to an end wishing to start something new and hoping you have found it interesting. So nervous and so excited!!! This, my first post, under the name of my company TheBlackBeetleProductions… Let’s stay in touch!
